National ICT Development Committee

The National ICT Policy Development Committee (NIPDC) has since its inception in December of 2012 held it's 4th meeting in November 2014 to get an update from it's stakeholders on the progress towards implementing the goals of the National ICT Policy.

The Government of the Republic of Vanuatu considers that an effective use of ICTs is crucial in achieving its National Vision of "A just, Educated, Healthy and Wealthy Vanuatu". It is the only way for us to overcome the "tyranny of distance" and connect people living on our many islands.

ICTs will assist us in delivering quality education to our children in the remotest corners of Vanuatu, improving health services, making government services much more accessible, as well as increasing efficiency of current economic activities.

The government acknowledges the collaborative efforts of the National ICT Development Committee (NIDC) and with international and local experts following extensive work and consultations carried over 24 months to produce the National ICT Policy, Cybersecurity Policy and Universal Access Policy which were officially launched by the Honourable Prime Minister Joe Natuman on 16th May 2014.

National ICT policies

In the area of national ICT policies, OGCIO is responsible to provide leadership, support and assistance to the National ICT Policy Development process, and to act as Secretariat to the National ICT Development Committee (NIDC). The process is aimed at creating a National ICT Policy, Universal Access Policy and Cyber-security Policy that are tailored to Vanuatu conditions, are based on extensive consultations with a wide range of stakeholders, and are ready to be operationalized by the those same stakeholders. Action plans by sector or ministry will be developed under the National ICT Policy.
